Adoption Requirements & Guidelines

Food & Water

Horses must have access to adequate food and water.  Hay and grain must be nutritious and free from mold and contamination. The horses diet shall be prepared with consideration to the horse's ages breed, condition, size and work level.  All feed must be kept free from mold, feces, mildew, insects, dust, etc.  

Veterinary & Farrier Care

Once your adopted horse is taken home it's your responsibility to take care of the horse by taking appropriate measures to keep the horse healthy and safe.  All horses should receive veterinary care if known or suspected to have an injury, accidental or deliberate, or showing signs of shock, colic, tremors, swelling, foundering, abnormal breathing, bleeding, loss of appetite, weight loss, hair loss, diarrhea, parasite infection, or other signs.  All dental check ups, shots, de-worming, and other care must be done on a regular documented basis.

The horse will need hoof trimming every 6-10 weeks or as directed by your veterinarian or farrier.

Your horse needs to have adequate shelter from inclement weather as well as adequate space in the pasture or stall.  The stalls minimum requirements are 10' x 10' and cleaned daily.

Adoption an Equine through Hope For Horses Foundation the signed contract is a co-ownership that lasts for the life of the animal.  An equine adopted through HFHF cannot be bred, sold, traded, or given away.  If for any reason the adopted animal is not wanted at anytime the animal must be returned to HFHF.  We do not accept or adopt out any stallions or colts.
